There is nothing sweeter than watching your kids open their gifts and play (or sleep) under the tree in their PJs on Christmas morning. What did we do during all these holidays before we had these beautiful babies to celebrate with? We were adamant about waking up at our own house this year so Isla could get the full Christmas experience. We lounged in our jammies well into the afternoon, FaceTiming family and playing with Isla’s new stuff. It was perfect. We went with minimal toys again this year, knowing the kids would get plenty of gifts from friends and family. Isla’s big gift was a kitchen set (my parents bought her all the food to go with it) and she got a few little things, like books and a raccoon bag. Theo got a kitty (“Theo the Cat,” to be exact because I couldn’t resist) to match Isla’s, which I assumed would mean they wouldn’t fight over them later but in reality means Isla now wants both of them. My little cat lady.
For Christmas Eve we had friends over for some meat pies from a little British shop on East Passyunk called Stargazy. The meal was incredible and the company even better. We drank wine, played Cards Against Humanity and Isla stayed up way past her bedtime. A new tradition perhaps? We also managed to see both sides of the family, mine for dinner on Christmas and Chris’ side the two days that followed. While I always miss my sisters and parents this time of year, it’s nice to have plenty of family within driving distance.
I hope your holiday was as wonderful as ours!
