baltimore day trip

Baltimore with Aunt Sierra

My little sister Sierra was in Baltimore just for the day on Saturday so we decided to meet her for an afternoon on the harbor. She’s been living in Utah (for college), spent last week in DC, is headed to Michigan for another week and then moves to Scotland for the summer so it was nice for Isla to get to spend some time with her. It was a gorgeous day (before and after the hurricane-like, 30-minute downpour), so we walked around the harbor, enjoyed a seafood lunch and then finished the day with a visit to the National Aquarium. It was a really great, touristy day. And I took lots of touristy pictures so Isla can remember her first Aquarium visit (spoiler alert: she loved the dolphins!).

Baltimore Aquarium Dolphin Exhibit

this is one of only 200+ Accredited Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) in the country, and we were happy to see the dolphin exhibit was not an actual show where they are required to do tricks. the dolphins spend all day playing and swimming on their own accord. many of the animals at the aquarium were rescued and none of the dolphins were plucked from the oceans.

calypso (the turtle) was found off the coast of new york with only one front flipper. when she was rescued she weighed only 10 pounds and now she weighs more than 500! we loved her.
