It’s not polite to ask a girl her age, but let’s just say as of this weekend, I am no longer a twenty-something (insert silent screaming in my head). I’ve tried for many years to convince everyone that since my birthday falls at the beginning of the month, my celebrations should last until August. I think my husband puts this one in the book of “Risa’s crazy’s demands I simply pretend to follow.” Nevertheless, I get spoiled every year. As is tradition, we spent the weekend with my family, lounging on the beach, eating lobster (a nearly 2.5 pounder just for me!) and enjoying the ocean breeze. We enjoyed the most amazing seafood dinner upon our return to the city, and he’s apparently planning something special with all my friends for this weekend. Like I said, spoiled. I have to say I’m really loving my newly wedded thirties.
For my birthday, my Anya gave me this beautiful bracelet once owned by my great-grandmother, known to me as “Nenny” and “Big Nan” to my mom and her siblings (she was really short and totally in charge). When I was a kid she always put extra sugar in my tea, she would sometimes swear in Hungarian thinking we didn’t know what she was saying and Anya says she had an eye for style. I’m so unbelievably touched that Anya would bequeath this beautiful memory to me.
