the royal treatment

And the perfect weekend continues … After our vineyard-hopping concluded (check out my last post to catch up!), we headed to check into the Hotel on Rivington in the Lower East Side. I swear there was some mixup (read: It’s possible one of us is a celebrity but doesn’t know it), because we were quickly upgraded to none other than the owner’s suite

… that’s 1,000 square feet of floor-to-ceiling NYC views — have you ever showered in front of a window whilst gazing at the Empire State Building? It’s one for the bucket list –, bunk beds for the ladies (don’t worry, they each had their own flat screen), a king-sized Tempur-Pedic for me, a closet the size of my first apartment, a balcony that spanned the entire length of the hotel, two full baths, a kitchenette and NYC views to die for.

each of these photos was taken whilst lying in my bed. yes, I’m serious.

our private balcony

that’s me on the outside with the views behind me. can you see my future sister-in-law, Carolyn, snapping this shot? we had way too much fun with this. you’d think we’d never been treated like royalty before … er …

the view from the front (we had floor-to-ceiling views from three sides!)

Coop Restaurant — apparently these are portraits of designers and well-to-dos who reside in the LES

When Sarah planned my bachelorette party, she made sure to incorporate all the things I love … first wine tasting and then a foodie’s dream, all in my favorite city! Co-op Restaurant, which came highly recommended, serves its dishes family style, which meant I could enjoy my sushi with the other ladies and share some land-lovers treats with Sarah! The menu featured everything from braised pork belly “Lower East Sliders” and spicy tuna rolls with “dynamite sauce” to peanut chicken satay and mini ceviche tacos with mango-avocado salsa. And look at those adorable desserts: a trio of ice cream sandwiches, a molten chocolate brownie and, I’m not at all embarrassed to say, we ordered a few others, too. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, but every bite was absolutely incredible.

Turns out the girls were just as surprised as I was when the waiter brought out our dessert with a sparkler! Like I said, Hotel on Rivington and it’s restaurant, Co-op, treat their guests like queens.

On Sunday, after watching the sunrise over NYC from my bed, the girls and I decided we didn’t want to leave the hotel. So instead of brunch on the town, we ordered in, and (I’m trying not to swear here because real words just can’t describe this) am I glad we did! We ordered from Co-op and shared the most exquisite breakfast I have ever had.

clockwise: red velvet pancakes with chocolate chips and whipped cream cheese; fruit+ there’s an egg white omelet with the works tucked in the back there; dulce de leche french toast with brioche, strawberries, and Chantilly cream; and the classic Benedict on an English muffin with smoked ham and béarnaise. I’m salivating even now.

Thanks to the girls for the trip of a lifetime. I’ve never been so happy.

the bachelorette

What happens at the bachelorette party … goes on the blog! Well, some of it. =) The idea of feathers, crowns, rhinestones and hot pink sashes makes me cringe. Luckily, I needn’t have worried. Sarah, one of my MOHes (my big sister is the other), planned the most incredible weekend, incorporating all the things I love in life … great friends, delicious wine, beautiful weather and, of course, NYC!

The best part was that at every turn I had no clue what was next. I was thrilled to learn we were headed to NYC (they only told me because Sarah and Meg are great party planners, but not-so-great navigators). Once there, to my surprise, a limo was waiting outside our hotel (the hotel deserves its own blog post, so bachelorette part II is coming later this week). Nearly an hour later, with no clue as to which state we were in — and not minding after all the champagne — we arrived at Duck Walk Vineyards in Southold Long Island. Not a cloud in the sky, not an ounce of humidity, it was the perfect day.

Our limo driver, Keith from Long Island Wine Tours, took us vineyard hopping. We spent the day sipping everything from sangiovese and chardonnay to champagne and port. It was heaven.

The second stop, Pugliese Vineyard in Cutchogue, is known for its champagne and had a beautiful pond filled with bright orange jumping koi fish. I went home with a bottle of Blanc de Blanc Brut. For those of you looking for a beautiful spot for a wedding, this was it (check out the picture below).

I was not looking for a wet n’ wild time in Vegas. After months of planning and worrying about every little detail of our wedding, it was amazing to be escorted around in a limo sipping bubbly with the girls in excited anticipation. I have never felt so at ease. (check out this blog post by Susan Schneider Design about why the no-”penes” bachelorette party was a breath of fresh air. p.s. she’s the one in the scarf and pretty long pink dress.)

Final stop: Vineyard 48 on the North Fork, where the real party began. It was more like a club than a vineyard. Okay, slight exaggeration, but the DJ and 15 other bachelorettes were ready for one! I like to think of us as incognito. While we snacked on cheese and crackers (okay, we’re not that lame, I was triple fisting at one point), we saw one bride-to-be and her ladies dressed in all black and ready for Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Veils galore, pink sashes, feather tiaras, the works, mixed with a good representation of the Jersey Shore (the show, not our beautiful wedding locale). We’ll call it the best people watching of the day.

So as I mentioned, the p.m. portion of the bachelorette was equally as exciting. It’s possible our hotel manager confused me with Tina Fey (wouldn’t be the first time) because we were treated like royalty. Below is a preview … of the master bath in our upgraded “owner’s suite.”

to be continued …

butterflies

a block from our church in Long Branch, NJ

As we hit the one-week mark today, I’m finding myself a bit overwhelmed with emotion. I’m going to confide in you a little and confess that this past year has not exactly been smooth sailing. We’ve considered calling it off, postponing and even secretly eloping before the hoopla. Don’t worry, we didn’t go with option c, as tempting as it was to have our own little secret forever and ever.

But with all that said, today I find myself so unbelievably excited I can barely breathe. Our projects are coming together, my dress is hanging in my closet (no peeking Chris!) and the butterflies are finally here — in my stomach, that is. We’re not releasing butterflies at the ceremony or anything, though, hmm, what an idea …

The other love of my life (my nephew) arrives in a few short days, my sisters are coming in from all across the country, our family and friends are uniting for the first time for the biggest party of our lives and after nearly nine years together (give or take some months for “growth”), I’m marrying this amazing guy who just happened to need my Q-tips to clean the Preakness mud out of his ears.

Nothing else matters.

our reception is in Red Bank, which is covered in beautiful murals, much like our current home in Philadelphia. Red Bank was also recently named by Smithsonian Magazine as No. 3 on its list of 20 Best Small Towns in America.

the red doors are my favorite. we have one at home, too.

he’s not getting away now!

our reception overlooks the beautiful Navesink River and town of Rumson, where Bruce lives. think he’ll stop by for an impromptu performance of Jersey Girl?

the beauty on the wall

There’s nothing wrong with a little Friday night wait at our favorite Mexican joint when the sun is shining and the neighborhood is colored with wall art. This blue-grey mural caught my eye and my fiancé is becoming quite the pro at capturing the moment. This impromptu date night kicked off probably the best weekend of my life thus far. The girls surprised me with the most amazing bachelorette party I ever could have imagined on Saturday/Sunday. More to come when I collect all the amazing pics we took!
